To submit a Letter to the Editor--email firstname.lastname@example.org
The Tompkinsville News welcomes Letters to the Editor on topics of public interest. There is no charge for publishing Letters to the Editor. Letters to the editor are published solely at the discretion of the Editor. Submission of a letter does not guarantee publication.
Letters must be no longer than 500 words and should be typed, if possible. Letters must be signed, with an address and daytime and evening phone numbers included for purposes of verification. The name of the author will be published.
Letters either in favor of or against a political candidate will not be considered for publication as a Letter to the Editor (such a letter can be accepted only as a paid political advertisement).
The Tompkinsville News also will not publish form letters, open letters, items of commercial or denominational content, copies of correspondence addressed elsewhere, or items not of general public interest.
“Cards of thanks” are not considered Letters to the Editor but instead are published in another part of the newspaper.
We reserve the right to edit all materials submitted for length or clarity reasons, to avoid libel and to insure that the material is not “in poor taste.” Those letters which cannot be edited as needed without changing the author’s meaning or those which contain libelous statements will not be published until the author has been contacted and the letter revised to meet our publication standards.
Due to space limitations, some letters may be held until the following week. Letters containing dated material will receive priority.
Opinions expressed in Letters to the Editor are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the opinions or imply approval of the Tompkinsville News management and staff.
